"I have always wanted to paint this painting.  No matter how many times I see Warthogs running away with their tails held high, I can’t help myself but smile. As a child i would get forced into riding in bumper cars at the county fair.  This was (unfortunately) my brother’s favorite ride and we had to take turns.  I never dreamed that someday I would encounter an animal that looked like one!

Warthogs have inhabited almost ever park I have been in Africa.  They all pick up their own individual look based on the terrain they inhabit.  Some have much more bushy hair, while some appear almost hairless.  Some are gray while others are red or brown.  Warthogs are a mirror of their surroundings.  If the soil is purple you can bet the area’s warthogs will be purple too!  Warthogs are a tasty meal for many predators so they must always be wary.  They dig an elaborate burrow which they will back into so that any predator looking for a pork meal will first have to deal with a face full of tusk.  This burrow if dug by a mother warthog will have a baby chamber which is curved upward off the main entrance so incoming rainwater will not drown the young.

Warthog’s tusks are not actually tusk, they are elongated incisors.  The female’s tusks are thinner and much more curved than the male’s.  The male in general is a little more “porky” than the female and has an extra set of facial warts."  - Kim Diment
