"Variable sunbirds are a very common, but beautiful African bird.  Often frequenting domestic gardens, these birds are as colorful as the flowers they visit.  There are many species of sunbirds in Africa and Asia.  They have some of the same similarities to American hummingbirds.  Both species are nectar feeders that pollinate flowers.  They are generally colorful with metallic and iridescent accents. Many of my sunbird reference images have been gathered from fellow artist Peter Blackwell and his wife Lisa Ashe's beautiful garden in Kenya." - Kim Diment
